Christians Against Poverty - April 2010

Table top sale

The recent table top sale raised £145 for Cap Southampton's work. Nick(who took over as CAP Centre Manager in Southampton when Lynne retired recently) sends grateful thanks to all who supported it, especially the cake- makers!

Waiting Times

Nick is thrilled to have been able to catch up with the client waiting list, so that clients are now being seen within 6 weeks. He'd love to reduce that time even more, but the number of potential clients continues to grow as the recession bites deeper. He asks us to pray that clients will be patient and not panic as they have to wait - having got the courage to ask for help, it's really hard to have to go on waiting! Also, for protection for clients in this position - some loan companies, etc, are very aggressive and contact clients by phone/ on the doorstep daily which can be very frightening. When CAP takes on a client, they shield them from that by telling them to pass all such callers directly to CAP.

Openness to the Gospel

Nick is thrilled that some clients have been really open to talking about Jesus and church lately .Some have taken Bibles or been to church meetings.

Support Workers

These are volunteers from the churches who go with Nick when he first visits a client, and then hopefully are able to befriend the client - taking them out for coffee, or phoning them to encourage them that someone cares. Nick is particularly looking for some more ladies to do this, as the majority of his clients are female. If you are interested, contact Nick on 023 8063 7510.

Praise God

1. That the table top sale was so successful, despite a very wet day!
2. That waiting times have been cut by half.
3. That so many clients are open to the Gospel

Please pray
1. For patience and protection for clients as they wait to be visited by Nick
2. That clients who have shown an interest in Jesus will come to know God soon
3. For the Lord to prompt more people to volunteer as support workers
